The camping trip
Camping.... Normally, in my opinion, camping is not my idea of celebrating the Junior Cert results but I was pleasantly surprised. I don’t want to sound cheesy or anything but it was the best time I have had in a long time!
The first thing we had to do when we got there was to set up our tent. Let me tell you that was not at all easy, trust me. We ended up asking a few of the boys for help. Now, when I say help, I really mean they did the whole thing for us. It was a good experience though, for them...
We then were taken on a short walk. The scenes on the walk were stunning! It took about an hour, so we were back in no time. The best day was the 22km hike!
The next morning I made some pot porridge, not realizing that everyone around me was cooking up a fry! I still enjoyed my porridge.... After breakfast we set off on the 22km hike. I’m not going to lie, I was dreading it. It started off quite easy, thank god. Then came the steep and tedious hills.
When we reached the end of the hike, I realized that it wasn’t that bad, with the exception of not being physically or mentally able to walk. On the plus side we all went swimming in the lake afterward.
It was the last night so, of course, nobody was planning on sleeping. We lit a fire and all sat around it. We weren’t singing around the camp fire because that would just be too cringy.... we were all just freezing!
I became closer with people on the trip and I honestly loved the camping trip and thought it was a great way to celebrate the Junior Cert results.

What I expect From Transition Year
This year I want to throw myself into every new opportunity that presents itself throughout the year. I want to get involved in as many activities as possible and develop my knowledge. This will also, hopefully, cause me to become more confident.
The Camping Trip will be an experience that I will never forget and is one of the first activities I will be taking part in this year. I hope this will bring our year closer. I have never been camping before so this will be a new experience for me.
We also do a school musical. I am looking forward to witnessing everybody’s talents in the year, that will hopefully show as a result of the musical. It will be an enjoyable experience to look forward to. This will also be a good opportunity for me to step out of my comfort zone a bit more.
When I leave school what do I aspire to be? I am hoping that plenty of different work experiences will guide me to the answer to this question. I am hoping to get work experience in an area of medicine, psychology (which I am mostly leaning towards at the moment) and Marketing and PR.
I also hope to use Transition Year to develop my acedemic skills for fifth year. I am still deciding whether or not I would like to do business so hopefully this year will allow me to explore different subjects and discover what I enjoy most and am best at.
Lastly, my favorite thing about Transition Year is community service. I am going to get involved in as many charity organisations as I can. I especially want to raise awareness for a suicide charity as I have a personal connection to this area. I feel that mental health in general does not get enough recognition because it is not a physical illness or disability.
That is what I expect to achieve from TY.
