Martial Arts
On the 23rd and 24th of October, we took part in martial arts. We learned how to defend ourselves against a threat and how to react correctly in a threatening situation.
It was a fun and educating experience. We practised some helpful techniques such as how to disarm someone with a gun, how to properly block a punch or slap and how to trap someone using our bodies.
We also learned how to recognise a threat and avoid any conflict. We learned how we can also use our words to avoid threatening situations and calm a heated situation.

CPR
On the 9th of November our Irish class took part in a first aid class. We learned how to perform CPR. We first watched a video on how to proper perform CPR and then head to physically take out CPR on a blow-up dummy. It was harder than it looked on the video. We also learned how to identify if or when someone needs medical attention and whether or not to perform CPR on them. It was a great life skill to have had the opportunity to learn.
Careers Workshop
On the 16th of November the fourth, fifth and sixth years attended a careers workshop. There were tables and chairs set up in the Junior School Hall, with different careers assigned to each table. Parents and past pupils, each with the labelled professions, came in and we chose four different careers and went to the person with that career. They told us about their job and what the career is all about. It was a very beneficial workshop. I realised I would love to do event planning from listening to a woman there who is an event planner for Redbull.
Dcu Open Day
On the 17th of November our entire year attended the DCU open day. We decided individually which lectures we wanted to see and at what times they were on at and went to see what they were all about. I went to phsycology, Bachelor of Arts and Law, Public Relations and Politics. Personally I loved the phsycology lecture. I don't know what I want to study when I leave school but phsycology is definitely on the table.
DIT Open Day
On Friday the 1st of December, our year attended the DIT open day. I went to the study skills course, the languages course and the Entrepreneur course. They were all very interesting but my personal favourite was the Entrepreneur course! It was very educational and they got current students to tell us about the different aspects of the course. Although personally, I do not wish to attend DIT after school, for now.
Steer Clear
This year I took part in Steer Clear. It was very interesting and educational. It will definitely come in handy when it comes to taking my drivers test in a years time. I did it every Tuesday evening. It was interactive which made it easier to understand and at one point he brought us all out to his car showed us how to physically change a tyre. I really enjoyed it.
First Aid
On the 16th, 17th and 18th of April, our year took part in First Aid classes. I really loved every minute of the classes. It was so interesting to know how to access if there is something wrong with a person and how to help someone in need of it. We learned the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, a stroke, anaphylactic shock, cardiac arrest, choking etc. It was so fascinating! We also learned to give CPR and mouth to mouth and what to do if any of the above happens to someone. I loved every minute of it!
Carlingford
From the 19th of February to the 22nd of February our entire year went to Carlingford Adventure Centre in County Louth. It was a great experience for our year.
On the first day we went to the Sky Park and did the Carlingford Challenge. I was so scared of heights so Sky Park was quite intimidating but it was very funny watching the rest of my group struggle at it. Then, after dinner, we did the Carlingford Challenge. We got split into teams and went up against each other in challenges in challenges such as climbing under a table without touching the groud and eating a bowl of dry wheatabix....
On Tuesday, our group went canoeing first thing in the morning. It was beyond freezing but it was so funny. In the afternoon we did lazor tag, which was so so much fun. I have to say we were all very competitive and so were the teachers, which made it very funny.
On Wednesday, our group did ziplining, aeroball, archery and frisby golf. All of which were hilarious. Especially the ziplining. That night we did a murder mystery activity. This was very funny. It took us a while but we eventually figured it out.
On the last day, we did crystal maze and High Ropes. These were my two favourite activities. They were all team building which was interesting but funny. Overall, I really enjoyed Carlingford.
